5 Steps to Start Building Positive Community

Did you move to a new community? Are you in a community that you’ve been in for awhile, but you haven’t made friends that you would like to have in your corner?

Are you heading to college and feeling anxious about making friends? Or are you heading back to a group of friends that are not a positive influence?

You have probably heard the phrase, “In your corner,” which means, “If you have someone in your corner, you have their support or help.”

So, how do you find those people and continue to enhance and invest in those friendships or relationships?

Whether you are from a small town in Kansas or a big city in New York, trying to accomplish this task of building a positive community can be tricky and extremely frustrating. I understand your frustration and want to give you easy steps to start building a positive community and getting the right individuals in your corner.

  1. Find out what you need to stop doing and start doing:

    • Stop binge watching tv shows or spending too much time on social media and start going to those events in your community or college that will help you meet new people and make new friends or connections. Stop making excuses as to why you can’t serve in your community and start getting excited to add value to others.

  2. Stop hesitating to ask someone to hangout:

    • Have you ever met someone and said, “Dang, I would like to be their friend”? Stop stopping there! Ask that person for coffee or a walk (if you're not wanting to spend money on coffee) and get to know them and determine if they are someone you want in your corner.

  3. Make time to invest in those relationships:

    • If you are not making time for someone in your life, then building the community you need and crave will take so much longer.

  4. Determine your goals

    • Be specific and write down 3 goals that will help you implement these steps and watch as it begins to transform your community and who you have in your corner.
